Hi there!
My name is Eugene and I am from Saint Petersburg.
I have two degrees. My first one is in Economics (which was highly popular in
this country in the nineties). But after having worked for ten years according to my
diploma, by the age of thirty I had finally realized I did not want to keep doing the
job I did not like, so I entered Saint Petersburg State University and started my
second higher education at the Department of Filology, where I majored in translation
theory and cross-cultural communication.
I graduated from the university in 2015 with a bachelor degree and in 2016 moved
to Colombia where I worked for two years as a teacher of English in comprehensive
schools. I had been dreaming about South America since adolescence, I took Spanish
as the second language at the university, so when I was offered this position I could
do nothing but accept it. Two years spent close to the equator were extremely
rewarding and it was real school of life. My pedagogical skills also skyrocketed
there: groups I worked with were of different age and size, from youngsters to adults,
from one to forty and more students and the environment I worked in was very odd
sometimes.
When I came back home I took a special course and obtained one more profession
- I became a tourist guide and started working with Spanish-speaking people in 2019,
showing them the beauty of luxurious palaces and the treasures of the Hermitage.
In my free time I like screwing nuts in the garage or cycling outdoors. I am also
fond of swimming in ice cold water after Russian bath as well as doing some extreme
sports as skydiving or zip-line. I cannot call myself a great connoisseur of musical
theatre but I love opera and ballet. Visiting museums has already become a part of me
not only because of my «culture vulture» personality but also due to my professional
career. And, of course, travelling is essential for a practicing linguist.
I am firmly convinced that speaking English amounts to the ability to use
tableware - it is obligatory nowadays. Being able to speak two foreign languages is
not something extraordinary anymore - the number of such people is constantly
increasing. A language is direct access to a different culture, an opportunity to look at
the world through the eyes of the other. Languages are like people - all of them are
different, none of them are the same.
At the same time I believe it is possible to master a language successfully at any
age - a man is never too old to learn. Motivation is important and if it goes from
inside, success will surely come.
Learn languages and this knowledge will always be of use!
Best regards,
Eugene, your future teacher
